Sail the canals of Amsterdam! Amsterdam is often called the Venice of the North. Well, is there a better way to know it than by sailing its canals? A perfect way to rest your legs before continuing to discover the city on foot.
Amsterdam’s canals have been the city’s economic and cultural engine since its construction in the 17th century. In 2010 UNESCO recognized its value, declaring the Amsterdam Canal Belt a World Heritage Site, a unique urban planning project that constitutes a piece of art in itself. Furthermore, the canals symbolize the city’s economic, political, and cultural development during the Dutch Golden Age, when Amsterdam was the center of world trade. Sailing through the Canal District is such a wonderful thing that it becomes an unforgettable experience. We didn’t make it up, we swear it! So much so that the District is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beyond the canal belt, the Dutch capital reinvents itself around the IJ Bay and Amstel River area, with the IJ River, what we would call the hipster area of Amsterdam.
