Program details
Discover one of the most important areas of Budapest with our Jewish Quarter Tour of Budapest, a guided walk in Spanish through the history of the Hungarian Jewish community and its impressive cultural heritage.
On this tour we will see the most emblematic and beautiful synagogues in the neighborhood, among which the Synagogue on Dohány Street or the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and the second in the world, behind that of New York. The synagogue complex also includes the Temple of Heroes, the Jewish Museum, the Garden of the Righteous, the Jewish cemetery and the Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust memorial park, where the symbolic Tree of Life stands.
We will also see the Orthodox Synagogue on Kazinczy Street and a mikveh, the place where ritual baths are performed to purify themselves. As we stroll through synagogues and memorials, our Spanish guide will take us to World War II Budapest, with sad stories about the ghetto in which the Jews were forced to live during the Holocaust.
In addition to discovering the architectural treasures of the neighborhood, we will learn curious facts about Jewish customs and traditions, what is kosher food, how the neighborhood has evolved to become District VII with that magical number and what the Jewish religion consists of.
