This tour takes in all the highlights of this wonderful watery city and with Skip the Line access to the main sights you will not have to spend hours waiting in queues. As we wander around the pretty narrow alleyways, saunter along gondola spotted canals and stroll across bustling piazzas you are sure to fall in love with Venice.
The tour starts off at the bronze statue of the famous playwright Carlo Goldoni. Then we head off to the stunning marble Rialto Bridge. Dating back to the turn of the 16th century this architectural gem went well over budget but as everyone will agree it was well worth it.
Next, we take in Marco Polo’s house. Born in 1254 into a wealthy merchant family, he is perhaps Venice’s most famous son. He embarked on an epic 24-year voyage to the East bringing back with him stories of porcelain, silk and gunpowder the likes of which had never been seen in Europe before.
We continue on to the Piazza San Marco, the bustling vibrant square which is classed as Venice’s prime attraction. Admire the facade of the splendid Doge’s Palace before entering the piece de resistance of the tour, St Mark’s Basilica. Admire the intricate domed exterior then head inside to see the opulent interior of dazzling gold and ornate mosaics – truly unforgettable!
Next, we’ll make our way to the Gondola Station, where we’ll embark on a 30 minute gondola ride down the waterways with a professional, local gondolier. We’ll start on Venice’s famous Grand Canal, where we’ll see sights such as Santa Maria della Salute Church, a 17th-century Baroque building constructed by lucky plague survivors to thank God for sparing their lives. Then veer off down the quieter minor canals where we’ll float lazily by more iconic city sights and under its famous bridges. Lookout for views of the dazzling Fenice Opera House and Theatre, the former home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Venice, the magnificent Church of San Moisè and the gothic style Bauer Palace Hotel.
The gondola ride will take place at the end of the tour.
