Program details
This two day tour spotlights two of the Ancient World's most important sites, taking in the ancient Roman metropolis of Ephesus and the ruins of the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamum.
After an early morning flight to Izmir (or an overnight bus to Kusadasi) we'll drive to the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Pergamum. Here we'll visit the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the god of healing where people with health problems would bathe in the water of the sacred spring, and in the patients' dreams the god himself would appear in a vision to tell them how to cure their illness. Then after lunch we'll continue to the Acropolis of Pergamum with its Temples, Gymnasiums, Libraries, Theatres and Roman Baths. We will return to Kusadasi where we will spend the night.
In the morning we will head to Ephesus, one of the world's best-preserved archaeological sites. With your guide bringing everything to life, you'll take in the highlights of this 2,000 year-old city. Walk down its Marble Street, explore the 24,000-seater Great Theatre and marvel at the Celsus Library - built facing east to capture the morning light. Big-hitters aside, you'll also see crumbling, houses, baths and the city's brothel. Then we will return to Izmir for the evening flight back to Istanbul (or to Kusadasi for the overnight bus).
This two day excursion includes return flights or bus tickets, hotel transfer, half-board accommodation at a 4 star hotel in Kusadasi, lunch during tours and museum entrance fees. Please note that drinks are not included.
